Shawn Husk was born in December of 1971 in North Eastern Ohio. His grandfather was a professional bluegrass singer and guitarist. Celtic music runs in his blood. At the age of 16 he heard bagpipes for the first time and they struck a chord deep within him. By the age of 17 he'd begun lessons and now 20 years later he is a competent piper with many piping awards to his credit.
Shawn's interest in reedmaking began well over a decade ago. His first pipe teacher, Noel Slagle, was a renowned reedmaker himself in the MacAllistar tradition and Shawn has many other reedmaking friends with whom he's talked shop with over the years; including, Sandy Hain, Mark Wygent, Ross Bates, Chris Apps, George Lumsden, Murray Henderson, Donald MacPhee, Jimmy McIntosh and others.
Over the past 10 years Shawn has worked in the manufacturing industry where strict quality control procedures and attention to detail have been a way of life, thus preparing him for life as a reedmaker.
"I've always had a fascination with bagpipe reeds and a desire to know more about how they work and what makes a great reed. It's my desire to provide the finest bagpipe reed I can, and it's my belief that 'Quality speaks for itself.' I'm commited to excellence and attention to detail and if you're not happy, I'm not happy, and I will do my best to make things right."
